What is it?Ginkoukouza are banks accounts. If you will live and work in Japan for an extended period of time you will have to create a Japanese Bank account.
What do I do?
Once you found a bank that you would like to use go there with your passport, Alien Registration card and if possible an Inkan (name seal) if you have one. Once at the bank you will have to fill out the application for an ordinary account called Futsuu yokin moushikomisho (普通預金申込書）. You will then go to the new account counter called Shinki (新規). All you need to start the account is a small amount of money. Even 1 Yen is fine. You will get a Bank booked called Tsuuchou (通帳）. Of course you can also get a ATM card called Kyasshu Kaado which you can use at ATM machines, If you get a ATM card you will have to provide a Pin code number.Payments from your account.
It can be difficult at home as well as in Japan to keep track of the many payments you have to keep such as Gas, water and electricity. In Japan you can set up Automatic payments from your bank account. This is called Jidoufurikae (自動振替) in Japanese. When you get you bills set up they will get the forms to fill out to se this up. On the forms you will record your account numbers name and some other information. Once this is done you can now have the payments automatically withdrawn from your bank account.Useing an ATM.
Not all ATM machines have English so here is a basic translation of the buttons you will find on a ATM Machine.
