Karaoke

Karaoke is one of the most popular pass times in Japan. It is also very popular outside of Japan. The word Karaoke is made up of two words. The word “Kara” meaning empty And  “oke” short for orchestra. So the term literally means “Empty Orchestra”. Karaoke is where people sing their favourite songs with recorded music accompaniment. Usually the lyrics are displayed on a monitor. In Japan people sing Karaoke at Karaoke boxes which is a room you can rent to sing songs, drink and eat. Karaoke can also be found at bars and many other places.  Karaoke started to boom in the min 1970’s when karaoke machines first came on sale.
